What is the Web 3.0?

Since its inception, the internet has evolved three times, now we are experiencing the third transformation.

Web 1.0, the static web: Consisted of web pages in which few people could create content and there was little interaction between users and creators but allowed users to create and share documents.

Web 2.0, the social web: Distinguished by social media, app development, and cloud computing, this web allows us to interact. Despite transforming the web into a more efficient tool for society, this type of web has two problems:

  1. Control in the hands of few: Big tech companies control and develop most of the apps that we use. These companies are growing because they offer one-stop-shop apps with a good user experience.
  2. Violation of privacy: Most of the “free” digital businesses consist of massive publicity based on personal data collected in sketchy ways. It is difficult to protect our data from the government, hackers, and companies.

Web 3.0, the semantic web: First used by web designer Jeffrey Zeldman, this new web addresses the above-mentioned problems by:

  1. Blockchain: This technology decentralizes ownership, protects data, and facilitates commerce. Blockchain lets users modify programs and improve them.
  2. Machine learning: Creates intelligent programs that make the user experience better.
  3. New conduct on the web: Companies like Brave are innovating, letting users, instead of just developers, earn money by making publicity.

Web 3.0 is still transforming. It will define the new internet era.
